Making real estate a family business

Category News

It takes a special type of person to make a successful estate agent. If you've got more than one of these personality types in the family, then you're in the perfect position to make real estate a family business.

That was precisely the case with Zenita and Anton Jooste, NS Property Solutions' (NSPS) newest husband-and-wife estate agent duo. While Anton joined NSPS three years ago, Zenita just became part of the team - making real estate a true family affair in the Jooste household.

This couple specialises in property rentals in Brackenfell, Parow, Bloubergstrand, Tygerberg and Stellenbosch, while also facilitating sales in these areas. Zenita is starting as an intern estate agent but brings a wealth of experience from the Property Management and Complex Maintenance industries.

Mark de Lange, principal and co-founder of NS Property Solutions, says the team is thrilled to welcome Zenita to the company.

"This is the fourth couple to join forces as property practitioners in our estate agency. I believe the support that we provide our agents is what convinces spouses like Zenita to leave the security of the corporate world behind and join our family," he explains.

"Seeing your partner grow and enjoy themselves at work is possibly the best encouragement there is to become an estate agent yourself."

But what does it take to join forces with your significant other in the world of real estate? Zenita and Anton share their experience and insights here:

Question: What made your decision to partner up as estate agents an easy one?

Zenita: I decided to move into real estate with Anton to find more balance in my life. It's been wonderful to see how being an estate agent has given him more time with his family and the opportunity to apply more of his creativity and diverse skills to his job.

Anton: Zenita has always been able to bring a new perspective to everything in my life, so having her join me at NS Property Solutions is a natural next step. Her experience in sectional title schemes has been immensely valuable so far.

Question: What aspects of your significant other make them a great estate agent?

Zenita: Anton is truly passionate about people. He is a people's person who really listens to others' needs and never pushes them into anything. I also think clients appreciate Anton's ability to sort out problems and the way he always sticks to his word. It makes a difference if someone loves what they do!

Anton: Both of us bring creativity to the table and Zenita is excellent at throwing new light on the challenges that we tackle together. Her ability to share in the dreams that our clients have is going to be a great advantage to her as she grows in her career. I'm excited to see where she goes from here.

Question: What are your plans for the future now that you've teamed up?

Anton: I built up my residential property rentals skills by working with and serving my local community, and we definitely want to do more of that. We've found that being involved in a community like Tygerberg, where we live, is very important. I think we want to focus on building trust through genuine long-term consistent relationships.

Zenita: We've had to overcome several challenges in the past, and that included Anton's move into real estate. I look forward to being able to face more new challenges together. I think families are stronger when they work together towards a goal.
